TS161 – Pride vs Humility

The first indicator of pride in our lives is when we begin concentrating on or pointing out the sins of others rather than repenting for our own sins. Pride hides our sins by causing us to focus on other sins. Pride always creates comparisons with others, highlighting the worst sinners and convincing them that they are superior than others. It is difficult for a proud individual to repent since he has his own definition of sin based on their comparison with others.

In Jesus time, Pharisees developed their own definition of righteousness which is derived from comparison with sinners. Humility is the complete opposite of pride. It makes us first concentrate on repenting for our own sins and then on praying for the sins of others. A humble person never judges or condemns others in spite of their sinful lifestyles.
