TS356 – A Season to Soothe the Heart of God

My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant. Please let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree. And I will bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh your hearts. After that you may pass by, inasmuch as you have come to your servant.” Genesis 18:3-5

God came with a heavy heart when he visited Abraham’s tent. The burden of passing judgement on a city like Sodom and Gomorrah troubled him so much. God came with a heavy heart, and that heavy heart longed for a place to rest. The Comforter was looking for a place to be comforted, and Abraham sensed it.

Abraham sensed that God came with a heavy heart. He forgot his own problems and wanted to become a place of rest for God. He saw God’s heart more than his own need for a son. He set aside his own problems for a moment and did something to comfort him.

So, Abraham ran to meet Him. He bowed low and offered water for His feet and shade beneath the tree. “Rest yourselves” he said, and the Lord of heaven rested. Every word and every gesture was meant to soothe the heart of God, and in that act, Abraham’s humble tent became a sanctuary where the Almighty could get some rest. He was doing things and saying things like ” rest yourselves under the tree and refresh your hearts” in order to provide rest to God.

In this season, many believers will experience a divine visitation like Abraham, where God will come physically. God will come, as he came to Abraham under the oaks, a visitor in the heat of the day. And when He comes, we are called to provide Him rest and comfort. For years God may have comforted your heart, but we are now entering a season in which we are called to comfort Him and give Him rest. The visitation has nothing to do with you; it’s for God’s heart to be comforted.

The days we live in resemble the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, and lot of calamities are coming. God is searching and looking for a heart where He can lay down His burden and rest. Whether you experience His visitation depends on whether you become a resting place for Him. So be ready. Start preparing to be a dwelling place where God can come and rest.
