Puritans are preachers based out of New England in 1600-1700 who preached the pure word of God. God in His mercy revealed to these preachers the hidden treasures from the scripture and they dug so much from the word that they covered every aspect from the word. Puritans gave the world an unadulterated knowledge about God, His Works and His Character. For example, Stephen Charnock brought the importance of attributes of God. John Owen brought back the knowledge of person of the Holy Spirit.
There are around 150 preachers in this era and each preacher wrote on average 3 book with 3000 pages content. The focus of their teaching is scripture alone with focus on the knowledge of God.
Every revival had its roots with its prominent leaders reading these books. Charles Spurgeon by the age 20 read around 30 puritan books.
A person who is exposed to these teachings left a lasting mark on the church. To name a few who were influenced are Charles Spurgeon, Leonard Ravenhill, David Wilkerson, etc.
Some prominent preachers are John Owen, Jonathan Edwards, John Bunyan, Thomas Boston, Thomas Manton, John Flavel, Richard Sibbes, Jeremiah Burroughs, Thomas Brooks, Thomas Goodwin, etc
