TS352 – The Oil is still flowing

“Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, ‘Bring me another vessel.’ And he said to her, ‘There is not another vessel.’ So the oil ceased.” (2 Kings 4:6)

The oil did not stop first. Because there were no vessels the oil stopped. The oil stopped because there were no vessels left. The miracle was overflowing miracle, but the overflowing stopped because there were no more vessels left to pour it into. Our hunger is the vessels that God fills with his oil (His Spirit). The more the hunger or desire to see God, the more God can fill our vessels will his Spirit. The deeper our hunger, the more room we make for Him to fill.

God will fill all vessels to the full. He satisfies a hungry heart completely, but He pours in proportion to the longing He finds. Bring a small desire, and you will receive a small portion. Bring a heart that is desperate for Him, and He will fill it until it overflows.

This is a call to holy dissatisfaction. Don’t be satisfied with what you already know of God. God wanted to fill us with a complete knowledge of himself, but our lack of desire to see him and know him stopped it. It is we who have stopped the flow by our lack of desire to know him. He will not force it upon a heart that does not desire it.

So ask yourself: how many vessels am I bringing? Ask Him to stir your hunger, to enlarge your longing, and to give you a heart that cries out for more of Him. The oil is still flowing. Bring another vessel.
