Even the sparrow has found a home,
And the swallow a nest for herself (near God’s altar in the courts of the living God),
Where she may lay her young. Psalms 84:3
The writer here is envious of the sparrows and swallows. The fact that swallows and sparrows can live near God’s altar in the courts of the living God makes him envious. He is envious because they have the privilege and opportunity to reside in the courts of the living God. While the believer is excluded (or barred) from God’s courts, the birds enjoy free, unrestricted access to the sanctuary grounds to raise their young.
The little creatures find a safe home and rest in the holy place. The verse depicts the exiled believer’s intense longing for that same nearness to God, almost to the point of holy envy as they watch the nesting birds. If even unreasoning animals find security at His altars, the human soul naturally faints and cries out to be there.
The verse talks about habitation in the courts of the living God. The author does not want to only visit it but to live in the courts of the living God. The author wants to experience living in the courts in the living God – where everything is living.
You need to ask yourself this question – Did you ever wanted to live and dwell in the courts of the living God? Did you ever wanted to live so close to God that you get a glimpse of him every day?
The sparrows have found home near God’s altars; did you find your find your home near the courts of the living God? Are you satisfied only with visiting the courts of the living God? Is there a longing to live near the courts of the living God?
Even though you have been a Christian for a long time and have known and experienced God’s blessings, have you ever wanted to dwell in the courts of living God?
Christian life is about habitation with God – where you will live near to the courts of the living God and His presence and enjoy unhindered access to the courts of the living God
